About the Suzuki Method
The Suzuki Method was founded by Shinichi Suzuki and is based on the idea that children learn music the way they learn to talk. This is referred to as the “mother tongue” approach. Most people think of violin when hearing about the Suzuki Method, but musical instruction using this method is offered on a variety of instruments including the flute.
The Suzuki Triangle
The Suzuki Triangle is what makes the Suzuki Method unique. The Suzuki Triangle represents the three participants in the learning process, each side representing the parent, student or child. The child and parent attend one 30 minute lesson together each week. The parent learns to play along with the child and practicing occurs daily in between lessons using materials assigned by the teacher. Listening daily to a recording of the pieces being worked on is also part of the learning process. The child, parent, and teacher are partners.
